All of Samsung's smart TVs run on its Tizen OS platform. It's a versatile platform that provides access to a wide variety of streaming services as well as Samsung's unique offerings such as Samsung TV Plus and the Gaming Hub.
Samsung TVs tend to be on the more premium side but the company has begun licensing Tizen OS to other brands. It's further expanding these global partnerships to bring more affordable TVs powered by Tizen to countries worldwide.
Samsung recently launched a new version of the platform, Tizen OS 8.0, and has also expanded the global licensing platform to bring in more original design manufacturers. These are companies that make and sell their own TVs which will run on software licensed by Samsung.
It works out well for users in the Galaxy ecosystem particularly, as they can take full advantage of the synergy between Galaxy and Tizen even if they don't want to shell out top dollar for one of the best Samsung TVs on the market.
Users will have a very similar content and connectivity experience on these TVs as they would on a Samsung TV. They'll have access to the free Samsung TV Plus streaming service, Gaming Hub, advanced content discovery, and more. Multi-device connectivity through SmartThings will also be enabled.
New TVs from well-known brands across Europe, North America, Latin America, and Australia will now run Tizen OS. These include the likes of Eko and Qbell in Australia and Europe, RCA in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, as well as Axdia in Germany. Samsung has also confirmed that more brands are going to join in by the second half of this year.
