Precision engineering has been crucial to Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge project. It wouldn't have been easy hacking away at everything that prevented it from boasting a 5.8mm profile. Samsung would also have reengineered many existing components to make the device as thin as possible. One might get the impression that if components are being slimmed down they may not be as good.
However, that's not always the case, and it's certainly not the case with the Galaxy S25 Edge. The new device's vibration motor is not just noticeably slimmer but also better in providing haptic feedback than the one on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
It has been pointed out on X that the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with a new cutom vibration motor that's only 2.73mm thin. You can see in the provided image that it's significantly thinner than the motor found inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It's also mentioned that this is the first vibration motor from Samsung to have the new ESA0815 module which delivers better vibration and haptic feedback.
There's a lot of R&D work that goes on behind the scenes when a new device is launched. The breakthroughs that Samsung has made here will no doubt have their influence felt across the company's entire lineup. Sometimes, such projects become essential to reinvigorate the product lineup, and the Galaxy S25 Edge may very well do that for Galxay smartphones.
Samsung has already tried its hand at slimming down foldable phones with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Its experience on the Galaxy S25 Edge product may also bring up much more slimmer foldable phones in the near future.
