Samsung Display has showcased 16 types of OLED panels in various shapes and sizes at the ongoing Computex 2026 expo. One of those panels is an ultra-slim OLED panel for gaming laptops. Despite its thinner design, the panel's performance and picture quality remain uncompromised.
The South Korean firm showcased an “Ultra Slim” panel for laptops. It is more than 20% thinner than Samsung Display's current-generation OLED panels. The company achieved this by etching the thin-film transistor (TFT) substrate glass and the encapsulation glass, reducing the thickness of each layer by more than 30% while avoiding the warping issues that typically occur when panels become thinner.
The panel still delivers outstanding performance and has achieved VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. This means it can display blacks as low as 0.0005 nits and reach a peak brightness of 1,000 nits on a 10% window. Moreover, the panel supports a refresh rate of up to 240Hz, the highest among OLED laptop panels.
Samsung Display's new OLED panel has also received VESA's highest ClearMR rating of 11000. This means it delivers 110 times more clear pixels than blurry pixels when displaying content with active motion.
Dongil Son, Executive Vice President and Head of Large Display Business and IT Business Team at Samsung Display, said, “The technological paradigm in the high-end gaming display market has completely shifted from LCD to self-emissive displays, and the ecosystem is expanding at a rapid pace. He added “Samsung Display will continue to be the first to introduce technologies that elevate gaming immersion, and we will remain dedicated to driving innovation in user experiences.“
