Samsung Pay is one of the most useful features on the company's smartwatches. All of the best Samsung smartwatches have it, as the feature makes it super easy to make payments on the go with just the wearable device.
However, as models become old and get replaced with newer iterations, it's not uncommon for them to no longer be supported, particularly if there's also been a major software change. With Samsung shifting its smartwatches to Android-based Wear OS a few years ago from Tizen, some of the older Galaxy Watch models are no longer supported for Samsung Pay.
The company has confirmed through a notice that Samsung Pay support is being discontinued for several Tizen-powered Galaxy Watch models. These include the Gear S2, Gear S3, Galaxy Watch Active, Watch Active 3, and the Galaxy Watch 3.
The Samsung Pay app is no longer available for download on these smartwatches which run the Tizen operating system. Those who have the app installed on the abovementioned models may continue to use Samsung Pay.
Do keep in mind that if the watch is reset or paired with a new phone, it won't be possible to reinstalled Samsung Pay, so make sure that the status quo remains if you intend to retain Samsung Pay functionality on these smartwatches.
It's business as usual for anyone with a more recent Galaxy Watch that's powered by Wear OS. Samsung Pay continues to thrive on these smartwatches and will enjoy support on the models for many years to come.
