Samsung SDI, the battery designing and manufacturing arm of Samsung, has announced that the batteries it made power the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which just set the world record for being the longest driven electric car on a single charge. This is a great achievement for Samsung.
A Lucid Air Grand Touring recently traveled 1,205 kilometres on a single charge, setting the Guinness World Record for an electric car with the longest distance driven on a single charge. The car was driven in June 2025 from Switzerland to Germany, covering highways, secondary roads, and even alpine roads. It surpassed the previous record by traveling 160 kilometers more.
Samsung SDI revealed that the Lucid Air Grand Touring that broke the world record was equipped with 6,600 units of its 21700 cylindrical batteries. The car has a WLTP range of 960 kilometers and a 13.5 kWh/100km rating. It delivers an impressive power of 831 PS and can reach a top speed of up to 270 kilometers per hour.
The two companies have been working together since 2016 when the US-based firm Lucid was founded. The luxury electric car maker has a state-of-the-art, vertically integrated car manufacturing facility in Arizona, USA. Lucid even uses Samsung's The Wall Micro LED TV to improve its car design processs.
A Samsung SDI official said, “With SAMSUNG SDI’s cylindrical battery powering the world's longest-range vehicle, we have proven our technological prowess. We will strengthen our partnership with Lucid to expand our global market share and accelerate the development of products that combine differentiated performance and safety.“
