While Samsung announced several major new software features debuting with the Galaxy S26 series, it did not reveal all of them. Some of the features that One UI 8.5 brings to Galaxy phones include an improved Gallery app with instant search results, a new version of Photo Assist for editing images using generative AI, and an enhanced Remaster tool.

The stock Gallery app now offers real-time search, which means matching images and videos start appearing instantly as you type in the search bar. More importantly, the app can now search for a specific section within videos. For example, when you search for “sea” or “sunset” and click a video in the search results, the app opens the exact section of the video where those elements appear.

Photo Assist, which uses generative AI to edit images, now supports text prompts. When editing images in the built-in image editor, you can type instructions in the text box to describe how you want to change the image. You can read more about it in our dedicated article here.

You can move an object in an image or change its size. You can also tilt the entire image to create the final result. The tool now lets you apply various styles only to faces or people in an image while keeping the rest unchanged. Previously, this feature applied the selected style to the entire image. There are now nine styles available:

The Remaster tool, which is available on select Galaxy phones, now uses generative AI to improve details in an image while maintaining its resolution. It now supports resolutions of up to 12MP. This allows you to enhance details in images captured at extremely high zoom levels, such as 30x.

However, results may not always be ideal, since the feature relies on generative AI and the output can sometimes be inconsistent.

It isn't clear if these features will remain exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series or if they will also be released to older phones and tablets.
