Google released Android 17 Beta 1 for select Android devices last week. While the company outlined some of the improvements included in the new version of Android, most of them are behind-the-scenes changes. More user-facing features are expected to be unveiled during the Google I/O 2026 developer conference in May.
Google I/O 2026 will take place from May 19 to May 20, starting at 10 AM PT. The event will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, USA. Along with announcing the conference dates, Google confirmed that it will showcase updates across Android, Chrome, Cloud, Gemini, and other platforms and products during the event.

Viewers will be able to watch the keynote live on YouTube. In addition to the main keynote presentation, the conference will include separate developer sessions focused on specific areas of Android and other Google platforms and services.
We expect Google to introduce new features for Android, Android XR, Wear OS, Android TV, ChromeOS, Chrome, Google Maps, Google Photos, Google Search, Google Workspace, and more.
Samsung is expected to bring most Android 17 features and changes to Galaxy phones and tablets through its One UI 9 update later this year, while WearOS improvements could make it to eligible Galaxy Watches with the One UI 9 Watch update before the end of 2026.
