When Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung Display said that the phone’s foldable OLED panel can withstand 500,000 folds. But what about the device? How many times can you open and close the phone before it fails? Well, a Korean YouTuber has folded the Galaxy Z Fold 7 200,000 times on a live stream and the device survived.

On YouTube, Tech IT streamed live folding the Galaxy Z Fold 7 200,000 times using their hands. It gives us a much more realistic picture of the phone’s (and its hinge’s and display’s) durability than the lab tests that are carried out in controlled environments. Every few thousand folds, the YouTuber paused and checked the condition of the device. 

Between 6,000 and 10,000 folds, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 rebooted. At 46,000 folds, the phone’s hinge started making a creaking sound. Around 75,000 folds, a liquid started seeping out from the hinge. After hitting the 100,000 mark, the YouTuber heard a slight crackling sound. After 105,000 folds, the crease become significantly noticeable. Despite these issues, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its hinge and display kept working perfectly fine.

However, at 175,00 mark, the phone’s speaker failed, which is odd. The device, though, survived 200,000 folds successfully. It shows that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 won’t fail for at least a few years of folding and unfolding, even if you count fidgeting by opening and closing the display. If you were on the fence of buying the Galaxy Z Fold 7 thinking that it may not be durable as traditional phones, this video should put your mind to rest.
