It's fair to say that a good number of Galaxy Z Flip 5 users probably felt like upgrading to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 last year wasn't worth the trouble. Without further ado, here's how the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 5 compare.

The most striking thing about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the new edge-to-edge cover display. It's larger and extends beyond the main cameras. You may or may not like this design, but technically speaking, the Flip 7's cover screen is vastly superior to the Flip 5's.

To keep things simple, it's easier to list all the major Galaxy Z Flip 7 upgrades compared to the Flip 5, including those that concern the cover screen. So here they are. This is what you'll get if you replace your existing Flip 5 with Samsung's new Flip 7.

On a final note, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 ships with Android 16 and One UI 8, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will receive the update eventually. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's enhanced on-screen controls and Gemini for the cover screen might not become available for the Flip 5.

Perhaps more importantly, One UI 8 will be the Galaxy Z Flip 5's second-to-last big firmware update. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 ships with One UI 8 and will be supported with up to seven major OS upgrades.

All in all, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might be the first real upgrade option for Galaxy Z Flip 5 users. And if you are a Flip 5 user, you should check out Samsung's trade-in offers (where available) for a better deal.
