The Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung’s first-generation tri-folding phone, went on sale in the US just last month. Now, the first display-related issues with the foldable device have already begun to appear. Most of these seem to be hardware problems that require repair.

Some users have posted images and videos showing the Galaxy Z TriFold’s foldable screen failing to function properly. One user reported that the foldable screen on their device became unresponsive and started registering ghost touches just five days after they started using it. The screen began flashing white after a few days and then stopped working altogether. The user also said they could hear popping sounds when folding the phone.

Another user described how the foldable screen on their month-old Galaxy Z TriFold, purchased in China, suddenly flashed green and then stopped working. Rebooting the device fixed the issue the first time, but when the problem returned, restarting no longer helped. The user claims they never dropped the phone, so a failure like this should not occur.

Both these issues appear to be related to the display flex cable and not the panel itself. However, only Samsung would be able to investigate and solve the problem.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is a first-generation foldable phone, and issues are bound to appear. However, it matters how Samsung well handles warranty claims and how it treats customers who spend close to thousands of dollars and placed trust on their first-generation product.

If these issues are indeed happening without any physical damage, Samsung will hopefully replace the faulty display units under warranty at no cost to users and it should do so quickly. As the company’s first tri-folding product, the Galaxy Z TriFold must inspire confidence among prospective buyers that Samsung will address any defects that arise on their own.
