Samsung has always strived to offer smartphones with higher resolution cameras. On the other hand, its direct rival in the mobile market, Apple, has been on the fence about bumping up the camera resolution on iPhones. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant has eventually followed Samsung’s path. For example, after the South Korean tech giant started offering phones with 48MP cameras, Apple too jumped on the bandwagon. Well, it looks like Apple will follow Samsung’s footsteps in offering 200MP cameras as well.
According to a popular tipster from China, Digital Chat Station, Apple is testing a 200MP camera sensor (most likely for iPhones). Samsung, on the other hand, has been offering smartphones with 200MP cameras for more than two years now, with the Galaxy S25 Edge being the latest phone to offer it. It means that if Apple offers iPhones with 200MP cameras, it will be following Samsung’s footsteps once again. That’s not a bad thing as long as consumers are benefiting from it. Speaking of which, here's something equally interesting.
While there's no information about the 200MP camera sensor that Apple is using, considering that Samsung is the only brand offering 200MP cameras for smartphones, it is highly likely that Apple is using the South Korean tech giant’s camera sensors for upcoming iPhones. It means that Samsung may soon benefit from the sales of iPhones in one more way (with the other being from supplying Apple OLED panels for iPhones).
On a related note, Oppo is going to equip its upcoming flagship phone, the Find X9 Ultra, with not one but two Samsung ISOCELL 200MP cameras. Going by these reports, it looks like brands are in love with Samsung’s camera sensors. The South Korean tech giant should capitalise on this situation and launch newer and more advanced camera sensors, which will not only benefit Galaxy phones but also bring revenue from other brands.
