Samsung has been letting users test beta versions of One UI for phones since One UI 1.0 hit the scene in 2018. Since day one, Samsung has offered One UI betas to Galaxy phone owners in seven markets: the US, UK, India, Germany, Poland, Korea, and China.
Seven years later, while the eligible device list has grown, those betas are still restricted to the countries listed above. That has long frustrated Samsung fans in the regions that are left out.
But that’s not nearly as frustrating as the way Samsung handles One UI Watch beta programs for its smartwatches. Samsung introduced One UI Watch beta programs in 2022 for Galaxy Watches running Wear OS, with the US and Korea being the only markets to be supported. Three years later, the program is still limited to the same two countries.
Why? We have no idea. Maybe those are the only places where Samsung sells enough Galaxy Watches to justify it. But that’s a lazy excuse. I mean, India has a massive population, and Samsung would find enough enthusiasts there who are willing to test the beta. After all, Samsung owns less than 5% of China’s smartphone market share yet has offered betas to smartphone users there every single year.
Meanwhile, Apple offers iOS and watchOS betas in pretty much every corner of the world. Samsung, however, is stuck in 2022. It’s not like it can’t expand One UI Watch beta availability to more countries. But Samsung has made it clear that it’s not interested, or things would have changed by now.
So, tough luck if you want to try out the next One UI Watch update ahead of time outside the US or Korea. There's always the teeny tiny possibility that Samsung will address this issue. But at this point, I’ve stopped hoping, and you should too.
