Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S25 Edge and the pre-orders are now open. Many people will now make the decision whether this is a device worth spending their hard-earned money on. Your purchase decision may rest on many factors, or there may be a dealbreaker that makes you give this phone a hard pass.
Naturally, we have our own thoughts on a matter, a more balanced approach that highlights precisely who this device is great for and who might be best served by another model in the Galaxy S25 series.
Anyone who has wished for an extremely thin and delightfully light phone will feel right at home with the Galaxy S25 Edge. Its 5.8mm profile is seriously impressive. It's one thing to see it in pictures, another to hold it in your hand. There's a moment of disbelief that something like this can exist, and it surely does.
A thin and light phone provides great versatility. Not everyone wants to walk around with a chunky phone in their pocket or bag. It's a good option to have with you if you travel a lot because its lack of bulk and heft makes a difference. The 200-megapixel primary and 12-megapixel rear cameras are also excellent for the normal user who doesn't have much use for a dedicated zoom camera.
There are certain categories of users that the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn't make sense for. Heavy gamers, for example, will be disappointed by its 3,900mAh battery, even though it has the same chipset as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Those who demand their phone's maximum, whether because of their work or lifestyle, will be similarly let down. Anyone wants the absolute best camera experience will also be better served by the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
I'd only ever used the top-of-the-line chunky Galaxy Note flagships back when they existed, and then shifted to the Galaxy S Ultra models. Yet, despite doing this for a living, I wasn't using many of the device's capabilities as intended. So once the Galaxy Z Flip phones became a lot better, I shifted to them and a Z Flip has remained my daily driver for five years now. I don't use a lot of social media, don't play games on my phone, and I rarely take pictures.
My Galaxy Z Flip 6 can do all of that very well and I have the peace of mind that it's capable of meeting any of those requirements whenever I want it to, while I absolutely adore the form factor and the versatility that it provides.
Ultimately, it's important to realize what kind of a user you are, and whether you'd even use all of the features that your phone has. Do you need the best in smartphone camera technology, because you're a content creator and your livelihood depends on it, or are you someone who takes an occasional picture of their pasta at lunch?
Do you need to charge your phone multiple times a day because you're grinding hard in your favorite mobile game or can't shake that doomscrolling habit? Or you normally find your phone with more than half the battery still remaining at the end of the day, because you only use your phone when it's necessary? Are you someone who wants their device to tick all of the boxes across all departments or are you will to accept trade-offers because you value a slim and sleek device?
Our recommendation is this: If you want a bar-style phone that requires you to make no compromises, go with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. If you're not pushing your phone to the max every single day but want it to have the capability to withstand everything you can throw at it, while also being incredibly thin and downright beautiful, buy the Galaxy S25 Edge.
