Reports emerged in the early hours of the morning today that Samsung Pay transactions weren't going through. Users reported being unable to make payments using Samsung Pay both in-person and online.
Some users had also reported problems when trying to register new payment cards in the app. An update from the Samsung Pay team now confirms that the issue has been addressed and all features are working normally.
When users tried making payments through Samsung Pay, they would receive an error notification informing them that the connection to financial institutions was not available at the moment.
The reports had primarily emerged from South Korea, where users found had trouble making payments through Samsung Pay between the hours of 6:20 am through 9:55 am. This appears to have been a localized issue as no similar reports emerged from the other markets where Samsung Pay is available.
The issue would have been agonizing for a lot of people going about their work on the first day of the week. It prevented them from making payments for public transportation or for their morning coffee fix on the way to work.
An acknowledgement of the issue had come from the company within a short while of the issues being reported, with the team confirming that a fix was in the works and that the service would be back online soon. True to their word, whatever the issue was that broke Samsung Pay transactions in the morning, was addressed in a matter of hours and normal service has now resumed.
