Samsung has released the much-awaited One UI 8 beta this week. The beta firmware is currently available for the Galaxy S25 series only but the program will soon expand to cover other eligible devices as well.
As is to be expected, the beta breaks some functionality on the device, with a new report highlighting that it renders some Good Lock modules and Google Wallet inoperable.
Good Lock is Samsung's suite of customization modules that allow for greater personalization of the device based on the user's preferences. A report finds that five out of the fifteen Good Lock modules no longer work after upgrading a Galaxy S25 device to the One UI 8 beta.
The broken modules include Home Up, Game Booster Plus, NavStar, QuickStar, and MultiStar. It's great to see that the vast majority of Good Lock modules remain unaffected after the beta upgrade, and we'll likely see these issues being addressed in the upcoming builds.
It has also emerged that Google Wallet doesn't work after upgrading to the beta. If it's your primary method for mobile payments, then it's best to not install the One UI 8 beta on your daily driver. Some banking apps are reportedly not going to work after the update as well, as this has happened during past beta program, so it's not entirely surprising.
Samsung intends to launch One UI 8 to the public in the coming months. We'd likely see it arrive after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are released by July or August. Both devices are confirmed to ship with One UI 8 out of the box.
