Samsung is expected to launch its next flagship smartphone with a clamshell-style foldable display, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 9 July 2025. At launch, the phone was expected to have only one direct rival, the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. However, it looks like the device may also have to face Xiaomi’s upcoming Mix Flip 2.
Xiaomi has announced that the brand will launch its next flagship smartphone with a clamshell-style foldable display, the Mix Flip 2, this month, days before the Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes out. The upcoming phone will arrive as a successor to the Xiaomi Mix Flip that the Chinese company launched in July 2024.
According to various leaks and rumours, it will have a 6.85-inch foldable display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a dual-camera setup at the rear comprising a 50MP camera with wide lens and OIS and a 50MP camera with ultra wide lens , a 5,100mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, and IPX8 rating for water resistance.
In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a 6.85-inch foldable AMOLED with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate on the inside, a 4-inch AMOLED screen on the outside, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a dual-camera setup at the rear comprising a 50MP camera with wide lens and OIS and a 12MP camera with ultra wide lens, a 4,200mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, and a IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
As you can see, both phones have their advantages over each other. It will be interesting to see which one turns out to be the best overall and the one that most people go with. On a related note, Samsung is also planning to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE at the event, a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
