Three players were ejected from the Connecticut Sun’s 71-62 victory over the Chicago Sky following an altercation in the first half at Mohegan Sun Arena. The incident occurred midway through the second quarter; the Sun’s Bria Hartley and the Sky’s Rebecca Allen battled for a rebound. Allen could be seen grabbing the right arm of Hartley, who responded by pushing her opponent to the ground, with the former then grabbing the latter’s jersey. Officials attempted to step in to break up the scuffle; however, Sky guard Ariel Atkins would join the fracas, pushing Hartley to the floor and making contact with a referee in the process. Following a ten-minute delay, officials eventually ejected Allen and Hartley before removing Atkins from the game “for being an escalator.” “I think things like that have a tendency to happen when there's not a control put on the game prior to. There's usually an incident that goes overlooked that leads to something like that. (Allen) clearly got elbowed in the face right in front of the ref and it wasn't called. Then other things ensued. It's unfortunate for us,” said Tyler Marsh, Sky Head Coach. The Sky, who fell to 8-24 on the season with the loss, were left with just eight players in the second half as star Angel Reese sat out her sixth straight game with back pain.
