An online crypto group has claimed that they are responsible for the recent sex toy incidents that have taken place during WNBA games. A member of the group, who spoke anonymously with ESPN, said that the purpose of the stunts was to promote a crypto coin that his online organization had created. Given the “controversy” surrounding the WNBA, the man said that the group believed that the games were the ideal target to market their product. The man, who goes by Lt. Daldo Raine on X, revealed that the coin started training on July 28, with the first sex toy stunt taking place the next day. The group’s Telegram channel showed members had prior knowledge of the incident, which took place during the fourth quarter of the game between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries. Delbert Carver, who later admitted to throwing the toy, was arrested on August 1 after he allegedly threw another green sex toy on the court during the Dream’s game against the Phoenix Mercury. However, the man who spoke to ESPN claims Carver, who is facing multiple charges, wasn’t involved in the first incident and isn’t part of the crypto group. Following Carver’s arrest, the WNBA has since warned spectators that such violations will lead to “a minimum one-year ban," as well as potential charges from authorities. In a separate incident on August 1, a green sex toy was thrown onto the court during a game between the Chicago Sky and Valkyries. An 18-year-old man, Kaden Lopez, was arrested at a game between the Mercury and Connecticut Sun in Phoenix on August 5 for attempting a similar stunt. Lopez, who was part of the crypto operation, removed the toy from his pocket and threw it towards the court, hitting two spectators, including a minor. On the same night, sex toys were thrown from the stands during games between the New York Liberty and Dallas Wings, as well as the LA Sparks’ contest with the Indiana Fever. The man also noted that a sex toy was supposed to be thrown on the court during the Seattle Storm’s game against the Minnesota Lynx; however, the thrower didn’t.
