2019 Finals MVP Emma Meesseman has reportedly agreed to a deal to sign with the New York Liberty. According to The Athletic, Meesseman, who last played in the WNBA in 2022, will join the Liberty upon the approval of her visa application. Meesseman has been playing in Europe ever since she left the WNBA, leading Fenerbahçe to EuroLeague championships in 2023 and 2024 while capturing EuroLeague MVP last year. The 32-year-old postponed her return to the US in order to compete at EuroBasket, leading Belgium to the title and earning further MVP honors. Meesseman began her WNBA career with the Washington Mystics after being selected in the second round of the 2013 draft. The two-time All-Star spent seven seasons with the Mystics, winning a championship in 2019, where she became the first European player to win MVP. Meesseman, who was the top scorer at the Paris Olympics last summer, spent the 2022 season with the Chicago Sky, where she averaged 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello, who coached Meesseman at the Russian club UMMC Ekaterinburg, told reporters on July 8 that the team would “love to have” the power forward.
